Literacy Collaborative
Dear Parents, Readers and Neighbors,
Welcome to our corner on Literacy Collaborative! We hope you will find the following pieces as a resource in which you can have a more detailed understanding of the Collaborative as a whole; as well as its specific components. Literacy Collaborative (LC) is the curriculum we believe and adhere to for our daily practice in English Language Arts, and allows for a Balanced Literacy Approach to reading. The Collaborative’s intention and belief is the way we present reading and writing to all children despite their ability, experience or grade level. It is the philosophy that all children will become independent readers and writers throughout their school career; while maintaining a focus on the ongoing challenges we face each day when we stumble upon a word we do not know, a story we want to abandon, or in editing a story that we just can’t seem to have flow from one idea to the next. Each day teachers provide a plethora of strategies that successfully aide students in some of the obstacles they come up against each day in reading and writing.
Please find these three links helpful as your child becomes more aware of him/herself as a reader and writer. You are always encouraged to reach out to any our staff, especially your child’s classroom teacher with questions about the Collaborative and its multi-faceted components.
Thank you for being supportive role models for our children. Enjoy the time you spend reading stories to them and listening to the stories they create.
Sincerely,
The Literacy Collaborative Team
